I'm pretty sure most of you would have heard about NTU's plans to let 3 people share a room in their Halls. What do you think of this? Is it a good idea? I, for one, would rather stay in at most a double room. Unless you put two rooms together, 3 people shouldn't be made to share a room like that.

I know, construction workers have it worse. It's true. But is it too much to ask that university students get better treatment? Or is this a form of "hardship training", perhaps?

Come on...hardship training? Would you pay to suffer? Think about their grades too. They only want to earn more money without having to invest too much on new buildings. The best way would be to boycott. If the students there really think it's not what they want, that it's not in their favour, then DON'T stay in the residences/halls. This is one chance to show that students opinion matters, and they should take it. That way, the foreign students will be able to take over the halls. Maybe they'll listen to the exchange/foreign students complains more than they listen to locals.

One person interviewed compared this to army bunks. Seriously?? I think my bunk was more spacious. At least I had a cupboard of my own. Looking at the "new" rooms, it seems they barely have space for beds, let alone wardrobes or study tables.

That is true, they can boycott, I guess, but in the end if the rooms really are built, they will be filled, no matter how willing or unwilling the occupants may be. One way, though, is for the students agree among themselves to limit 3-person rooms to a max of 2 people, with whoever is last sacrificing a chance to stay on campus as a message to the administration (and a chance for the 2 staying there to save some money as well.)

I saw the interview as well, and yeah I think I had more space in my bunk Tongue Not sure about listening to complaints from foreign students more than those from local students, I think we're treated equally in that respect at least by the NUS admin.
